Hi and welcome to my blog! I'm Yuri. I've had this blog around for a couple of years, but never truly committed to it... but I'm turning over a new leaf! My goal with this blog is semi-indulgent. With a creative writing degree under my belt, I regret never having actually applied my college education (well, 1/2 of my degree, at least). Secondly, I hope this blog will act as a way friends and family can check in-- see what's been going on in our lives and such. Lastly, I see this as an opportunity to try out some new things-- new recipes, new projects, new what-nots... and share with you my musings. With a fresh new look and a head full of new ideas, I think it's the perfect time to start anew with this blog. Thanks for coming along for this new adventure into blogosphere with me. It's going to be fun-- and I'll bring some sweets. And milk, of course.
This "About Me" section makes me uneasy, I won't lie to you. It's the first place I go after I check out a couple of blog posts of a blogger. I want to feel like I'm getting to know the person who may have spent hours on a blog post. That's real-- sitting in front of a computer screen, drinking coffee (or not), excusing yourself for potty breaks (yours or your dog's), spilling cookie crumbs on your keyboard... so now I feel like I need to share a little something with you-- whoever you may be, new friend.

I'm a Scorpio. Really? That's my opener? Lame. True fact. The Scorpio thing is also a true fact. I used to really be into astrology... and also into Tarot cards and incense. That's cool if you're currently into those things-- my favorite incense was strawberry. Yes, I know. I was into uber-strong, artificial strawberry scented incense when I was 17. Not okay. Moving on...
I haven't *not* been a student since 1987. The last 7 years have been spent in graduate school-- from San Diego to the great Midwest. No, I don't know how I moved from San Diego to the Midwest. It just happened to work out that way, and I haven't regretted it once.
I'm originally from New York. Not the city; Long Island. But, I have more of a Michigan accent, if anything. Except for the word 'orange.' That's still all New York. Unless I'm drinking. Then, more of the New Yorker in me comes out. If I'm drinking in New York, then that's a double-whammy.
I have a husband who I met in San Diego, and we have two dogs in our lives-- Juni and Oliver (Ollie), who are both rescue dogs, and both racing breeds. My favorite summertime treat is pineapple Dole Whip in a cup with raspberry sauce. Tragically, since moving away from my favorite local Ice Cream shop (shoutout to The Chocolate Moose), it's been nearly a year since I've had this amazing frozen treat in my life. But that's ok. There are plenty of delicious things to discover, everywhere you are.
With that, I feel a weight lifted from off my shoulders. Now you know me, in a nutshell. I hope you'll stay for a while, and check back often. Thanks, (new) friend!
